June Notes from the Medical Staff President

This is my last letter to you as Medical Staff President. It has been an honor and my pleasure to serve in this role, and it has been inspiring to work with so many medical staff members that I didn’t know prior to this position.

May Notes from the Medical Staff President

The votes are in. Our next vice president/president elect is Laura Pollauf, MD. Congratulate Laura as she takes on this new role. She will be working closely with P. Cooper White, MD, who takes over as Medical Staff President on July 1. We have a great leadership team working on behalf of our members and a strong support team in the Medical Staff office, which is led by Kim Rockich.

April Notes from the Medical Staff President

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy spring. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Medical Staff Open House for the Kay Jeweler’s Pavilion on April 24th, 7 – 10 a.m. As noted in previous communications, our CMO Rob McGregor and CEO William Considine will present for a CME at 8 a.m.

March notes from the Medical Staff President

Spring is here! In the Medical Staff office, that means it’s time for the committee interest survey. Every year, we review committee membership and ask the chairs about attendance and engagement. We then seek new members to fill the shoes of those who are no longer active. There are several committees where you can lend your […]

February notes from the Medical Staff President

I’m requesting nominations to fill the seat of vice president/president elect of the Medical Staff. In July, Dr. P. Cooper White will assume the role of president for 2 years, so we are electing the leader to fill his shoes. A call for nominations went out this week.

December notes from the Medical Staff President

Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a pleasant, relaxing holiday. Due to the busy season, the Medical Staff Executive Committee met early last month in a combined November/December meeting. We reviewed the recent Joint Commission visit, which went very well. There were 18 standard deficiencies: 9 direct and 9 indirect. Most of the deficiencies […]

November notes from the Medical Staff President

The holidays are fast approaching, with preparations including vacation, family time, shopping, gift-wrapping and baking. As you consider your gift-giving this year, please consider making a donation to the Akron Children’s Hospital Annual Fund. You should have received a donation letter earlier in the month. As a member of Physicians for Philanthropy, I strongly encourage everyone to […]

From the Medical Staff President: October 2014

To our Medical Staff Members: As January approaches, please remember that our policy requires all providers to be BLS certified, and there are exceptions available for those with advanced life support training. Refer to the Basic and Advanced Life Support policy for details. At MSEC in September, we approved changes to the Pediatric Medicine, Pediatric Hospitalist, Pediatric […]

Note From Med Staff President: Ebola Update

Dear Medical Staff Members, As the concerns about Ebola in Northeast Ohio continue to escalate, this edition of Pediatric Pulse is dedicated exclusively to this topic. A rational, logical approach is necessary, and we as healthcare professionals must lead the way in a calm but comprehensive manner. I applaud the work being done by our […]

New State of Ohio legislation and other changes

As the weather cools and the days are shorter, I want to bring your attention to some “hot topics” from the State of Ohio legislation. Start Talking consent forms are required if you prescribe opiates, including tramadol, to minors, effective Sept. 17. This consent form is required by state law and subjects providers to sanctions […]
