Sleep Center granted 5-year accreditation

Upgraded Sleep Center Room

Akron Children’s Sleep Center has received 5-year accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

Accreditation from the AASM is voluntary and reflects our commitment to providing the highest quality care for sleep disorders. Since 1977, the AASM has assessed and accredited sleep centers, and its facility accreditation is considered the gold standard for evaluating sleep medicine facilities.

Last fall, Akron Children’s opened a new sleep lab with 5 larger, state-of-the-art patient rooms, all with private bathrooms and accommodations so a parent or caregiver can stay overnight. The renovations included upgrades to sleep lab hardware and software, and new HD video cameras and carbon dioxide monitors.

A mobile sleep study unit is available for inpatient testing.

“We are pleased to be recognized by the AASM for the high quality care we provide in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders,” said Jyoti Krishna, MD, director of the Sleep Center. “As an AASM-accredited facility, we will continue to incorporate the latest advances in sleep medicine into our practice to ensure the unique needs of pediatric patients are met.”
